In addition to the conserved area, our REDD+ projects also impact the communities and surrounding areas with improvements and alert generation in case of deforestation. Therefore, our numbers are as follows: 5,085,474 hectares of monitored area, 3,824,000 hectares under registration and 1,637,874 hectares of forest area conserved by our REDD+ projects.

Before the project was implemented, the Caapii area suffered a deforestation rate of 2,83% annually, which is equivalent to 955 soccer fields being cut down every year. The main factors that led the region to lead the deforestation statistics were soy monoculture, cattle raising, and logging.

Pará is one of the states with the highest deforestation rates in Brazil, having already converted 70% of its original land cover. The region faces intense deforestation pressure, which influences the surrounding areas to continue contributing to greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil.

 The Challenge of Preservation in Paragominas

Project big numbers 

Legal deforestation for cattle ranching on the CBNS property was considered an alternative during an economic crisis. However, with a visionary decision, CBNS decided to initiate a preservation project and generate carbon credits, thereby influencing the surrounding area and ensuring the existence of 27,000 hectares of forest essential for the development of communities and the survival of hundreds of species of fauna and flora.

Before the project was implemented, the Unitor area suffered a deforestation rate of 0.83% annually, which is equivalent to 170 soccer fields being cut down every year. The main factor that led the region to the deforestation statistics was the cattle-raising activity.

The main factors that led the region to lead the deforestation statistics were cattle ranching and agricultural activity (soybean on a larger scale and rice on a smaller scale).
